As many of us know and almost as many care, that magical month of novel-writing—NaNoWriMo!—will be upon us in just 2 days. On November 1st, buttloads of eager writers will start scratching, typing, or using-their-thumbs-or-something out the first draft of a 50,000-word novel. This includes Yours Truly, and it is a nice feeling to win this, especially because you then have a draft to rewrite!
But before you experience the joys of making your draft into a masterpiece, you must first write that draft. Not quite sure how to proceed? Wouldn’t it be nice to have a guide—nay, a selfless coach! A life-saving dispenser of brilliant advice! Indeed, a dedicated chorus of angels!—to get you through every single word of the FIFTY THOUSAND you must write in 30 days?
“And lo, we really enjoyed it on a sentence level!”
Well, too bad. But you do have me, and I will be giving the following seminars at key points in the month of November. If you live in the Las Vegas area, come on by the Green Valley Library on Sunset and Green Valley in Henderson! But if you “live”—bah! You call that living? She has to keep pasties on, for God’s sake—elsewhere, you will be able to catch all four videos on my YouTube channel. These particular talks are geared toward NaNoWriMo, but these and the others in my “Fiction Coaching” section will help when you’re writing any novel, any time, anywhere.
Another satisfied customer.
Anyway, here’s all the info on the upcoming seminars. Get registered and maybe join some “write-ins” in your locality on the NaNoWriMo, get writing, and become the novelist you always knew you could be! (Or continue to be the novelist that you already started being with earlier writing! Either way!)
Please note: The talks are about 1 hour, but 2 hours are scheduled for each in case attendees want to have questions answered, trade story ideas, or even get some writing done right there! So don’t be scared off by a “two-hour” seminar.

Saturday, Nov 12th, 4–6 pm: Creating Your Novel Scene by Scene
(Register at http://tinyurl.com/GVnano2.)
Once you have an outline and understand who your characters are and why they do what they do, you’re ready to get writing. In this one-hour seminar, writer and fiction coach Sean Hoade takes you through building a scene, spinning the web that connects it to the next scene, and then writing the next scene—all the way to a finished first draft of your novel. Step by step, you will bring your dream to life.
Saturday, Nov 19th, 4–6 pm: Writing Dialogue to Make Your Characters Unforgettable
(Register at http://tinyurl.com/GVnano3.)
Plotting and scene-building are vital to the novel-writing process, but in dramatic fiction, your characters must have interesting things to say—and say them in a way that reveals information about the character in the process. Indirectness in dialogue makes the people in your pages POP! If you want to write gripping novels, short stories, screenplays, or anything else with dialogue, this one-hour seminar from fiction specialist Sean Hoade may provide the last piece of the puzzle to make your novel sizzle.
Tuesday Nov 29th, 6–8 pm: NaNoWriMo Wrap-up and Debriefing
(Register at http://tinyurl.com/GVnanowrapup.)
How you end your novel is essential to getting readers interested in your reading your next book. In this one-hour session, Sean Hoade, the author of more than a dozen traditionally published novels, will talk about how to satisfy readers’ expectations—and/or frustrate them in dramatically satisfying ways—in your final chapters. These secrets will lend the events of your novel deeper meaning and make it so readers just can’t wait to read your next work!
“Keep waitin’, suckers—all I‘m writin’ these days is my name on the back of giant checks! Haw!”
